What is Plasmapen and how does it work?
Plasmapen is a pen-shaped device that, without touching the skin, releases tiny, very controlled bursts of energy. Each one creates a micro-dot on the surface that makes the tissue contract straight away, which is why you notice a tightening effect from the first session. The technique is also known as fibroblast skin tightening.
Over the following weeks the skin renews itself and produces more collagen and elastin, so firmness and glow keep improving. It is a low-invasive beauty treatment with no cuts and no needles, done in our cabin with a topical numbing cream so it is comfortable.
Which areas can be treated?
- Upper eyelids: helps with excess skin on the upper lid and opens up the eyes.
- Crow’s feet and eye contour: softens expression lines.
- Under-eye bags and dark circles: tightens the thin skin under the eye.
- Marionette and smoker’s lines: softens the lines around the mouth.
- Cheeks, forehead or neck: improves texture and firmness on larger areas, and light acne marks.
- Abdomen: helps skin that has lost elasticity.
- Small skin tags: only tiny benign surface lesions. We do not treat moles: any mole or spot that changes shape or colour should be checked by a dermatologist first.

How the session works
- Assessment. We look at the area, your skin type and your goal, and explain what you can realistically expect.
- Preparation. We cleanse the skin and apply a topical numbing cream for a few minutes.
- Treatment. We apply the device dot by dot, following a pattern.
- Aftercare. We apply a soothing cream and give you clear instructions for home.
Downtime and aftercare (the sun matters)
For the first few days you will see small dot-shaped scabs and some swelling, especially on the eyelids. The scabs fall off on their own within 5 to 10 days: don’t pick them and don’t cover them with make-up.
- Sun: avoid direct sun and use a high SPF for the following weeks. This is the most important rule on the Costa del Sol, where the sun is strong all year.
- Tanned skin: we can’t treat freshly tanned skin, so book before your beach days, not after.
- Plan your trip: if you are visiting, leave the scab week free of beach and pool days.
- Results: the final result shows 6 to 8 weeks later, once the skin has finished renewing. Some areas need a second session.

Plasmapen, microneedling or a carbon peel?
It is the option when you want a tightening effect on one specific area, like the eyelid. Cosmetic microneedling (€65) is better for overall skin quality, such as texture, pores and marks, and leaves no scabs. To even out your skin tone, the Hollywood carbon laser peel is the better choice, and for firmness across the whole face, facial radiofrequency. How much does a session cost?
It depends on the area: €50 for a small area or skin tags, €100 for eyelids, crow’s feet, under-eye bags or marionette lines, €150 for cheeks, forehead or neck and €200 for the abdomen.
Is Plasmapen a good treatment?
For small areas of loose, thin skin, like the upper eyelids or crow’s feet, it gives a visible tightening effect. Results vary from person to person, so we assess your skin first and tell you what is realistic.
How long is the recovery?
Expect small scabs and some swelling for the first days; the scabs fall off within 5 to 10 days. Most people go back to work straight away, although on the eyelids the swelling is more noticeable.
How many sessions will I need?
One session is often enough to see a change. Some areas need a second one, once the skin has fully recovered, after 6 to 8 weeks.
Does it hurt?
With the topical numbing cream it is very manageable: you feel warmth and the occasional prick.
Who should not have it?
It is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding, with a tendency to keloid scars, on tanned or broken skin, or with some autoimmune conditions. If you are unsure, check with your GP first.
