Getting your nails done should feel like a treat, not a race. At BLUSH, our beauty salon in Málaga, every nail appointment starts the same way: we look at your natural nails, ask how you use your hands day to day and recommend the technique that will actually last. Sometimes that is a simple polish; sometimes a gel manicure with a builder base, or a full set of sculpted nails. The goal is always the same: nails that look perfect when you leave and still look good weeks later.

Whether you live on the Costa del Sol or you are in Malaga for a few days, you will find us in the city centre, a short walk from María Zambrano station and the Soho and Alameda area. We are not a nails-only bar: the same salon also does lash lifts, waxing and facials, so you can book several services in one visit.

Ask us

Gel polish, gel or acrylic nails: which one is right for you?

This is the question we hear most in our nail salon, often with an Instagram photo of the perfect set. The answer depends on what you want to achieve:

Technique Best for How long it lasts
Classic polish Changing colour often A few days
Gel polish Healthy natural nails, chip-free colour 2 to 3 weeks
Gel polish + builder base Thin nails or nails that bend and peel 2 to 3 weeks
Gel or acrygel extensions Extra length with a flexible, natural look 3 to 4 weeks until the infill
Acrylic nails Long nails and maximum strength 3 to 4 weeks until the infill

What is the difference between acrylic and gel nails?

Gel is a material that is shaped on the nail and cured under a lamp. It stays slightly flexible, so it moves with your natural nail instead of snapping at the first knock, and it gives a lighter, glossier result. Acrylic is a liquid and powder system that sets very hard: it is the best choice for long lengths and dramatic shapes, but it feels a little thicker. Acrygel sits in between, combining the strength of acrylic with the comfort of gel. We will advise you based on your nail and your routine.

Is gel polish the same as shellac?

Many clients ask for «shellac», which is actually a brand name. What they usually mean is a gel polish manicure: colour cured under a lamp that does not chip and does not come off with normal nail polish remover. In Spain it is called «manicura semipermanente» or «esmalte permanente». That is exactly what our gel polish manicure is, always with a builder base underneath for extra strength.

Useful Spanish for your nail appointment: nails are uñas («las uñas»), a manicure is manicura and a pedicure pedicura. Gel polish is semipermanente, gel nails are uñas de gel, acrylics are uñas acrílicas and an infill is mantenimiento. A nail salon is a salón de uñas, and the city centre is el centro. Reading Spanish reviews of nail salons? Trato is how you were treated, limpio means clean, agradable pleasant and clientas clients. No need to learn any of it, though: we can help you in English.

If you bite your nails or keep them very short, there is a solution too: well-built sculpted nails protect the nail while it grows out. And when you want to go back to your natural nails, we remove them gently, without ripping or forcing.

What every manicure includes

Whatever product or system you choose, the groundwork is the same. It is what makes a manicure last and the finish look clean.

  1. Hygiene and nail check. We sanitise your hands and our tools, and check the natural nail: is it thin, peeling, or are there leftovers from a previous set?
  2. Shape and length. Filing to the shape that suits you (round, oval, square, almond) and a length that works for your daily life.
  3. Cuticle care. We gently remove excess skin from the cuticle so the colour sits clean and does not lift.
  4. Application. Classic polish, gel polish, builder or acrylic in thin layers, cured under an LED lamp when the product needs it.
  5. Finish and hydration. Cuticle oil and hand cream, so you leave with soft skin and dry, perfect nails.

French manicure and nail art in Málaga

Long-lasting nails don’t have to be boring. Our technicians can do a classic French manicure with a fine white tip, a modern coloured French, chrome and mirror effects, soft ombré, glitter, marble or a single accent nail. Bring a reference photo and we will tell you what is possible and how long it takes. Because designs vary so much, nail art is priced on request: send us your idea on WhatsApp. You can see more designs on our nail art page (in Spanish).

How to make your manicure and pedicure last

  • Wear gloves for washing up and cleaning products: hot water and bleach are the biggest enemies of colour.
  • Apply cuticle oil every night to keep the nail flexible.
  • Don’t use your nails as tools to open cans or peel labels.
  • Beach, pool and sun are fine with gel polish, but rinse off chlorine and salt water and keep using oil.
  • If a nail lifts or breaks, don’t pull it off: message us and we will fix it.
