Do your legs feel heavy by the end of the day? Do your ankles swell after a long flight, a hot afternoon walking around Malaga or hours at a desk? Excess fluid that builds up in the tissues is one of the most common causes of that puffy, tired feeling, and the summer heat in Andalucía makes it worse for many people.
Manual lymphatic drainage (in Spanish, “masaje de drenaje linfático”) is a type of massage specially designed for exactly that: a slow, very light technique that helps the lymph flow, eases swelling and gives you back a feeling of lightness. At BLUSH Estética, a beauty salon in Málaga in the Centro district, our therapists do it entirely by hand and adapt each session to the areas of the body where you retain most fluid.

What is lymphatic drainage?
The lymphatic system is a network of lymph nodes and vessels that runs through the body alongside the circulatory system and the immune system. Its job is to collect excess fluid and waste from the tissues and return it to the bloodstream. Unlike blood, lymph has no pump of its own: it moves with muscle movement and breathing. When that flow slows down, fluid can accumulate and you notice swelling, heaviness and that soft, “padded” look that makes cellulite more visible.
Lymphatic drainage consists of slow, rhythmic, very light movements that follow the natural route of the lymph towards the lymph nodes, to stimulate the body’s own drainage and help reduce swelling. It is a completely different feeling from a deep tissue massage: the pressure is barely more than a caress, which is why it is so relaxing and effective at the same time.
Manual or mechanical: two ways to drain

Manual lymphatic drainage massage
This is our 60-minute session. Your therapist works by hand, starting near the main lymph nodes and moving through the legs, glutes, abdomen and arms. Because it is done by hand, the massage techniques adapt to you: we spend more time on the specific areas with most fluid retention and go even more gently where the skin is sensitive.
Pressotherapy
Pressotherapy uses special boots that inflate and deflate in sequence with controlled air pressure, a mechanical massage using air instead of hands. It lasts 30 minutes and is a good way to maintain the results of manual drainage or to combine with other body treatments. You can read more on our pressotherapy page (in Spanish).

Benefits of lymphatic drainage massage
- Helps reduce puffiness and the volume caused by fluid retention.
- Relieves the feeling of tired, heavy legs and swollen ankles.
- Activates lymph flow and helps improve circulation in general.
- Improves the look of skin with cellulite and the texture of the treated area.
- Leaves a sense of relaxation and lightness from the very first session.
- Calms the nervous system and brings a feeling of tranquility: many clients fall half asleep, so it is also a lovely wellness ritual to unwind.
What happens during a session
- A quick chat. We ask where you feel most heaviness and whether you have any health condition.
- Getting comfortable. You lie down with your legs slightly raised, in a calm room with soft light.
- The drainage. Slow pumping and gliding movements, always towards the lymph nodes, for about 60 minutes. You should not feel any discomfort during the session.
- Afterwards. Drink water and, if you can, take a short walk: it helps your body complete the elimination of fluid. You may experience a need to go to the toilet more often for a few hours, which is normal.
Who is it for?
Lymphatic drainage is a good fit if you notice swollen ankles and legs, fluid retention before your period or in the heat, mild circulation problems, heaviness after long-haul flights or a long day of sightseeing, or if you want to support a body plan for cellulite. It also works well with wood therapy (a massage with wooden tools, page in Spanish) and our other body treatments (in Spanish), especially for legs, abdomen and glutes.
Lymphatic drainage does not work on muscle tension, a knot or a contracture. If what you really need is to relieve tension in tight shoulders or a stiff back, a more traditional relaxing massage or deep work is the better choice: see our massage in Málaga page for relaxing, deep tissue and sports massage.

Lymphatic drainage: frequently asked questions
How much does a lymphatic drainage massage cost in Málaga?
Our 60-minute manual body lymphatic drainage costs €45. A 30-minute pressotherapy session costs €20.
How many sessions do I need?
It depends on each case. For a lasting change we usually suggest 1 or 2 sessions a week for a few weeks (between 6 and 10 in total), then maintenance. If you are only in Málaga for a short stay, even one session makes your legs feel lighter.
How long does a session last?
The manual lymphatic drainage massage lasts about 60 minutes. Pressotherapy lasts 30 minutes.
Does lymphatic drainage help you lose weight?
It helps your body release retained fluid, so you will notice less volume and puffiness, but it does not remove fat. For body-shaping goals, combine it with healthy habits and treatments such as wood therapy.
Is it painful?
No. It is a very gentle massage that leaves no marks, and most clients relax so much they almost fall asleep.
Is lymphatic massage good after liposuction?
Post-operative drainage after liposuction or any surgery must follow the plan your surgeon gives you. We do not offer postoperative lymphatic drainage; our sessions are a beauty and wellbeing treatment.
